The way you experience the cities you visit will never be quite the same again.
It can be surprisingly hard to explain why you like the books you like the most. Instead, here are the basic details, which might seem strangely uninspiring. This is a slim book with precious little narrative. It is a series of short impressions of visits to different cities, supposedly recounted by Marco Polo. There is the intimation that each impression is actually a description of the same city from a different point of view, but this is just gloss because the impressions themselves are poignant, mind-bending or wise by turns without ever becoming overly introspective or intellectual. No book haunts my perception of the world quite as much as this one.
