"It's a great sense of satisfaction knowing I'm doing something useful and that someone may benefit from it"
Since retiring from work several years ago, I had been hoping that a different kind of volunteering opportunity would arise. Locally, all that was available was working in the local charity shop or assisting with the Boy Scouts! Neither really appealed to me, then one day when I was looking at the Timebank website, I saw the one for Seeing Ear, looking for volunteers to become online library assistants. It took me a while to pluck up the courage to apply, I wasn’t sure if it would be too difficult to learn, it sounded so complicated! However, I did the course, and was accepted. I soon realised my knowledge of Word was more limited than I had thought, but I have learned a lot in the last few months, and now really enjoy working on the books, and some have been very challenging. It gives me a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I am doing something useful and that someone may benefit from it.
